War and food insecurity

Space technology can be used to monitor the impacts of conflict on agriculture and food security by detecting reductions in planted areas through satellite imagery. When combined with conflict event data such as the ACLED database, this analysis provides a comprehensive picture of where needs are greatest, even in locations that are inaccessible to humanitarian actors. By linking patterns of violence with agricultural disruption, space-based insights help governments, UN agencies, and NGOs anticipate crises, target assistance, and protect vulnerable communities affected by war.
